NARFE supports research to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease. A
commitee at the national level has oversight.
In Chapter 181, 2006 saw contributions from several sources. Seven Chapter 181 members helped
with a rummage sale, raising $79.10. Aluminum collections from the recycle site yielded $222.64. At raffles
held at membership meetings, many winners donated their winnings bringing in $160.00. Memorial donations and
donations from families with a member suffering from Alzheimer's totaled $280.00. Fifteen members generously donated
$679.26, and finally, $2.05 in interest from the chapter's Alzheimer's savings account. Chapter 181's total
donation for 2006 was $1,412.
In Bremerton, aluminum donations are accepted at the West Sound Recycling
trailer in the east Bremerton WalMart parking lot recycle site, Tuesday through Saturday. A Chapter 181 account has
been set up; when donating aluminum cans, or extruded aluminum scrap (disposable pie plates, foil are not
accepted), please state that the aluminum donation is for the NARFE 181 Alzheimer's fund and they will forward the proceeds
to the chapter.
In Port Orchard, they're accepted at West Sound Recycling's South
Kitsap Mall parking lot recycle site Tuesday through Saturday. When dropping off cans, please state
that the aluminum donation is for the NARFE 888 Alzheimer's fund and they will credit the Chapter 888 account.
